Our Accomplishments
Since April 1, 2020
- Advocated for the hire of MMSD’s First Black Superintendent.
First Black Superintendent hired. - Advocated for MMSD to investigate a former Elementary School Principal who repeatedly allowed a student to call Black teachers and students the “N” Word.
As a result a new Principal was hired who is of African American descent. - Support for City of Madison’s Resolution 61015 to create the All Black Committee on Critical Issues Affecting The Black Community.
Resolution 61015 Passed. - Oppositional stance to Resolution 118-20 to consolidate voting locations in Fitchburg.
Resolution 118-20 Failed. - Written Support to Dane County Supervisors for the passage of Resolution #180 drafted by Supervisor Analiese Eicher and Rep. Shelia Stubbs.
Resolution passed successfully. - Supported the Dane County Resolution #145 Halt the construction of the jail [992 bed facility/cost $148 million].
Negotiated resolution to pause it for a year. - Held meeting and sent numerous communications to Former MPD interim Police Chief regarding lack of representation of Blacks in the department; the disparity concerning arrest records of Black adults and youth and unsatisfactory training program for officers and advocated for Black Police Chief.
Wherein, the Madison Police and Fire Commission selected a Black Chief of MMPD.
- Advocated for the hiring of a Black candidate to be the interim Sheriff of Dane County.
Dane County elected their first Black Sheriff who was serving as Interim at the time. - Raised issues with the following officials regarding the lack of representation and retention of Black’s in their respective organizations:
– Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney.
– City of Madison Interim Chief Vic Wahl.
– University of Wisconsin Chancellor Rebecca Blank. - Held Training Session for Community members interested in running for political offices.
- Held Community Reception’s for: Superintendent Carlton Jenkins, Police Chief Shon Barnes, Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett and Monona Chief Brian Chaney Austin.
- Held a “State of Black Madison Summit” in 2021.
- Held the first ever Black Parent Engagement Summit in 2023, whereby 184 parents, administrators, MMSD staff registered to attend. Focusing on Black and Brown student achievement in the District.
- In 2023, BPSADC became the first ever Black-led organization to intervene in both the Alliant and MG&E, Public Service commission (PSC) rate cases. As well as both an affordability and a policy making arrearage dockets.
- 2nd Black Parent Engagement Summit, will held on April 27, 2024 with approximately 200 registrants.
- Held a Community-wide Dane County Executive Candidate Forum on June 20, 2024.
- Held the only Black-led City of Madison Community-wide Fundraiser for Kamala-Walz campaign.
