Social Action Committee

The social action committee is dedicated to moving forward ideals that help the Dane County communities through activism.

BPSADC has collaborated with many organizations related to the following initiatives as well as led the charge in looking to change the culture and operational outlook of some major issues.

  • Helped led the charge with COVID vaccinations and making sure that all communities had the proper information and access to vaccinations and tests.

BPSADC became the first ever Black-led organization to intervene in both the Alliant and MG&E, Public Service Commission (PSC) rates cases.

  • Involved in the affordability and a policy making arrearage program initiative.
  • Continuing work on both rate cases as well as an intervenor in the case along with PSC staff to determine what kinds of programs.
  • Led the charge related to Environmental Justice for families and the ability to afford their utility bills and the angst that is caused by the rise in the cost to heat their homes and/or apartments.
    • The focus has been on the utility companies raising the consumer bills and giving financial breaks to big companies.
    • The focus has also been on looking for ways in which the utility companies can reach out to their respective communities to help them afford to live and pay their bills without having to give up food, medicine and care because of higher prices.
  • Currently working in areas deemed low-income, where apartment residencies are exposed to PFAS – a compound like mercy was found in the lakes around their homes/apartments where children play.
    • The study was done in 2021.
    • This also includes leaks in underground pipes which are owned by Dane County Airport and the National Guard. Working with both entities to understand what next steps may be.
    • The pipes were fixed, but post-testing has shown that there is little to no change in the PFAS levels.

Help Us Bring the Change We Need
